The European Ecolabel is issued by AFNOR to hoteliers that commit to a structured and demanding approach to environmental sustainability for the long-term.
Château de Valmer***** decided to commit to it and was awarded the European Ecolabel in the autumn of 2014.
An eco-responsible approach, it aims to educate staff and guests by highlighting the impact our actions have on the environment and to reduce that impact.
Our actions and contributions are focused on the following key areas:
Château de Valmer is committed to replacing all bulbs with energy-saving bulbs.
Guests are made aware of eco-friendly measures to adopt, particularly regards management and use of electrical appliances.
For short distances, we recommend guests and staff use our shuttle service or bicycles.
All our rooms have double-glazing.
Château de Valmer encourages staff and guests to sort their waste for recycling by having in place bins for metal packaging, plastics, batteries, expired medicines, etc.
In the restaurants, we do not provide food products packaged in individual portions.
In the bedrooms, we limit the number of single-use courtesy products (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) by handing them out on request.
Château de Valmer encourages staff and guests to be careful about their water consumption. For example, all taps are fitted with water-saving devices.
In our extensive park and gardens there are rainwater collection containers, and green areas are equipped with automatic watering and drip-water systems.
We read our water meters regularly to monitor consumption.
We invite guests to decide how often they want their bed linen and towels changed to reduce the frequency.
All staff are taught the most effective ways to reduce use of chemical substances.
In this same eco-responsible spirit, Château de Valmer has achieved the French AGRICULTURE BIOLOGIQUE (organic) label issued by Ecocert, governing cultivation and production of its vegetables, fruit and aromatic plants, and its own AOC Provence wine.
Château de Valmer’s success in achieving these labels – the European Ecolabel and the Agriculture Biologique – is the culmination of all the measures taken over the last few years as part of a comprehensive environmental policy.
